As members will know, the minimum unit price of alcohol will increase from 50 pence per unit to 65 pence per unit from 30 September.

Anyone with a licence to sell alcohol cannot sell it cheaper than this to the public. This applies whether you have a premises licence or occasional licence.

It does not apply to wholesalers carrying out trade to trade business.

The Scottish Government is actively working to ensure compliance and raise awareness about these changes. Please look at the MUP Retailer Guidance that can be downloaded below, especially page 8, which highlights price marked packs and what retailers need to do with any older price marked packs that fall below the new unit pricing.

Highlighting this to retailers will ensure they comply with MUP and protect wholesalers from any obligation in having to take back an old price mark packs.

Note that the 30th September is a hard deadline and enforcement starts from that date.

Posters and materials have been developed in partnership with Healthier Scotland to help communicate the price change within wholesalers depots. Please find below the SWA MUP posters, highlighting that MUP does not apply trade to trade and where these should only be displayed within wholesalers depots.

Separate retailer posters can be found here: https://www.gov.scot/publications/alcohol-minimum-unit-pricing-posters-and-flyers/ .
