Training
Our long-established product knowledge seminars – covering a wide range of sectors – continue to prove popular with our Members and we will continue to facilitate these regularly, in partnership with Associate Members, as part of our Training programme. However, in early 2007 we commissioned independent consultancy Human Capital Services Ltd to conduct a feasibility study on our behalf to research the type of training you would like us to provide in the future. A number of Members volunteered to be interviewed as part of this study and we invited a mix of wholesalers to participate in order to gauge demand from businesses which differ in size, location and the markets they service. This research has told us that Members generally share similar concerns in terms of their priorities for effective training and staff development. We are in the process of developing a junior management training programme to assist those staff who you have identified as managers of the future. The idea is that your future potential can sign up for occasional sessions or for the whole programme.
The subjects covered were identified during the feasibility study – ranging from working with teams to leadership skills and to motivating staff. The nuts and bolts of managing will be covered too – disciplinary procedures, dealing with absence and other similar subjects that can cause problems and take time to resolve. The SWA has also received offers of support from suppliers who have pledged to provide not just skilled trainers but materials as a means of assisting members to get the best out of their staff.
